“Close your eyes,” the man said,
And the excited boy bounced a bit beside me on the new sofa.
Two sticky, little, pink hands came from behind me,
Covered my eyes.
The warm breath of a girl child’s voice in my ear,
“Don’t peek.”
That was more than two decades ago.

But this morning, you were a precious baby to me.
I wrapped you in your funerary blanket,
Cradled it around your head.
It felt wrong to shroud your eyes,
Your right eye, the one you exited,
Still seeing your trajectory.
Your sight, dead on your destination.

Out into the mourning sky,
You would get an early start.
By nightfall,
Fly pass the moon.
So I can waive
One last goodbye.
Farewell, my Valentine love.

I called him first,
He had brought you to me on my 33rd birthday.
And then her.  She had dressed you in doll clothes,
Dragged you around like a 10 pound sack of potatoes,
And fixed you in a doll’s chair for a cup of tea.
I called the man that was once a boy.
He whispered an, “ohhh” that sounded like the rising wings of doves in an empty church.

Your esteemed, grayed body,
Lanky and wooden now,
Stretched out.
Reaching.
I carefully wrapped your tail, the longest I’ve ever seen,
In and around your legs.
You might be sleeping, if it weren’t for your determined eye.

There is a hole,
Hallowed and already dug,
Beside the rose bush where you would disappear many summer days.
I will shovel the snow out
And see you there in the spring.
A glorious bloom,
Despite the thorny stem.

There are almost seven planets within one degree. The Moon, Mercury, Chiron, Mars, Uranus and Pluto will all be at 9 degrees of the sign they are transiting. The Sun will be at 8 degrees of Scorpio. And while this is unheard of, it looks to be positive. The energy between Sun, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Pluto is likely to provide for some kind of healing. Signs in Virgo, Scorpio, and Capricorn may willingly facilitate conversation and commitment to the transformation of a deep psychological wound. If this sounds interesting to you, make it work for you.

Friday night Pluto and Uranus finally square off. This has been coming for months and the good news is that as this powerful planets square off none of our personal planets are involved. Mars in Virgo opposing Chiron in Pisces may produce some misplaced anger. Be mindful of your temper. Check it out, what are you really angry about?

Monday is a new moon. You might utilize it to keep any healing experiences “to keep on, keeping on!”

Be well and happy Halloween!

The moon, almost full,
Cuts a white hole in the indigo night sky, like a child with scissors.
A finite black, papery disc flutters fast, unnoticed, out of sight.
Like confetti on New Year’s Eve,
The brilliant cut no longer contained,
Spills in-falling particles of light.
The dark sapphire sea scintillates.

In a sequined dress, it dances in great waves to the moon’s lead
In the spot of light, shimmies and shakes,
A great lustrous, ebony muscle under a skin of satin glass,
Billing a holiday mood.
Shhhhish Shahhh Ahhhhh Haa, Shhhhish Shahhh Ahhhhh Haa
What a party.
I watch from my window.

From infinitely far into the future,
One at a time, they come rolling in,
Out from that soft blurred navy line,
Regular patrons of a smokey night club.
An eternal flood of guests heady and boisterous,
Their steady rumpus, sounding,
Like the static of an old radio played between stations.

As they arrive
Moon-lighted
White crested black tides,
I make out the smooth, shore sound of each of them
CHAHH Shhhhshahh Ahhhh
Some louder than others, but collectively
A deafening din.

I am a child of this Moon and Sea duet
Jazzed with fresh salted air
Almost lured,
If not for standing in the shadows
Aside soft billowing bedroom curtains
Stealing entry to a brilliant show,
To strip clean and swim in the ancient memory of my beginnings.

At this curvature of space, this bridge in the cosmos,
I am quick and nimble, finding the discarded black hole
Fitting it into place, pasting it in, like closing my curtains,
Turning my back on possibilities too great to consider.
I climb into a soft, cloudy bed
Romanced and dreamy-eyed by the pas de deux,
I fall asleep.

lightening storm

There was a deliberate vibration,
A shift,
A turn taken.
The Aspen trees trembled
And the tall Pines bowed in reverence.
The grasses supplicated to the great change.
The sky, gray-green, beseeched the sun and rolled over her,
Ushered her out and tucked her behind soft clouds,
Whispered, “This is not for you.”
And without light, the world became a glass half empty.

God bowled a mighty strike,
The earth shuddered
And the sky illuminated
A barbed reckoning.
Our attention,
Demanded and instantly obliged.
Mendicant servants,
Our muddied heads cleared with confessions,
“Hallowed God,
Lead us not into temptation.”

Focused and without hesitation
It reigned down a heavy decree.
Without compromise,
Leveling the scales and dismissing justice,
Willing It’s way.
The river rose up to meet its maker
And in one sweeping correction,
The hand of a God,
Flooded the subastral gap between Heaven and Hell,
Making life a watery underworld.

We were placed on notice.
Our mendacious plottings,
Pompous rantings,
Audacious exploitations,
All called out.
The makings of a human.
Humbled
By the recollection
of our sea monkey beginnings,
We softened our backbones.

And it was all forgotten,
This humility,
When the Hand lifted the tempest
And the gray-green sky shifted softer and lighter.
That fast,
We ventured out.
Expected nothing,
But everything.
The Sun
And the Moon.
